Meetings
The meetings are free and open to all. Programs are presented on many subjects by experts in their field of research and are followed by a stimulating “Question and Answer” session. Members have an opportunity to exchange new information and share ideas and methodology with others. Our Library The Bronzeville Historical Society will maintain a small library for the use of its members containing family histories, general reference books, Chicago area research books, family charts, and exchange quarterlies of other genealogical societies. The holdings are published periodically in the Bronzeville Society News, the society’s quarterly publication. Members can request that the librarian bring publications to meetings.
Pioneer Certificates
African American descendants of early residents of Chicago, or Cook County, can apply for Pioneer Certificates. If you have any Chicago or Cook County ancestors who arrived in the area prior to the Chicago Fire of October 8, 1871, you are eligible. Pullman Porter and Provident Hospital Certificates are available.
